Meltham Memories 2013

Chris and Grace’s home village of Meltham, in West Yorkshire, was transformed back into the 1940’s wartime over the weekend of July 5th-7th 2013. The village became a 1940’s village with people wearing clothes of that era…military and civilian. World War 2 displays and battles took place and two spectacular fly-pasts took place featuring a Spitfire and a Dakota. A parade of military vehicles and tanks took place along with bus trips around the village on a 1940’s bus. There was an abundance of 1940’s entertainment each day and evening…and, in the midst of all this, there was our SOS stall. We received lots of support and were warmly received. One army chap, who has just left the Army after almost 20 years, has moved into our village and he came up to our stall to shake our hands and thank us for the care parcels that SOS send out. He told us just how much the parcels are appreciated by the lads and lasses out in Afghanistan. This was a really special moment for us. We hope to keep in touch with him because he only lives 5 minutes walk away from our home.
