Dear Nickie

I am Sara, the Detachment Medical Officer here on the CH47, which is another name for the Chinook Helicopter.  There are three here and the mission is to provide support.

I heard about SOS through one of my Sgt`s at work in the UK and it is certainly a brilliant way to boost morale.  The boxes arrived on Monday 13th and as they were all addressed to me I was really delighted when I saw them and I opened one just to check and found your letter.  I want to express my deepest and heartfelt thank you; especially having been able to make them up during Covid.

There are about 100 UK military personnel here, a mix of RAF and Army.  We are in the middle of a large turnover of these people with their replacements due out tomorrow.  There are a handful, myself included, who arrived about a month ago.  I plan to distribute the boxes in the next 2 – 3 weeks otherwise I fear they would be devoured by the personnel leaving tomorrow.  They will go down really well and will be much appreciated as it is basic here.  Covid did cause the camp to close with reduced flights.   There is a very small shop on the camp with not much stock (due to the flights).  The weather here is hot, now with the wet season approaching it is hot and humid.

I wanted to say, thank you again to you and SOS.   It is such a lovely idea and means more than words can adequately express.

Kind Regards         Sara

Dear Nickie

I just wanted to send you a little note to say thank you very much for the boxes that you sent out to us.  It is very kind of you to think of us and they provided a very welcome burst of morale! It was especially nice to get some toiletries (altho I have to fight the boys for them).

It is a lot hotter here than in the UK – up to 50 degrees some days and very humid so I think we are all looking forward to returning to British weather can you believe!  I hope that you and your family are keepng safe and that lockdown lifting allows for a bit of a return to normality for you all.

Thank you once again for thinking of us.   With best wishes.

Dear Nickie Our son was away and received one of your wonderful Boxes. He is home for R and R at the moment and has showed us  your letter. When he contacted us on Christmas Day. He said he had a fun filled Day and was very touched how Supportive the General Public were. As a mother this was my first time apart and was feeling sad as Christmas Eve is his Birthday as well. I was also feeling more proud than usual if that’s possible. He was suppose to be here and Deployed this month, however in true Comrade fashion he changed Deployments with his Comrade who the year before was in Afgan so he could enjoy a Festive Season with His family as Grant was lucky enough to be with us and not in Afgan. Your help in making his Festive time enjoyable helped me very much at Christmas more than you will realise. I trust your Christmas and New year were as good as you made Others, I truly hope so. All the Best to you and your Family for 2015. Many thanks indeed Nickie Kind Regards Lorraine,Gary Taylor and Shelley (Grants Twin.) Xxx

Good Afternoon Nickie,

I wanted to convery my thanks for the very kind gifts that we received from you and the SOS organisation recently. I’m very sorry it has taken so long to reply however we’ve had a particularly busy time of things.

The gifts sent to us were great and made home feel a little bit closer having been out here over Christmas. The socks and the gloves come in handy during the winter months but the temperature is on the rise again which is in complete contrast to the weather in the UK I understand? I have been watching the news with interest and cannot believe just how wet the UK actually was/is! I think there is more to come as well. At least I don’t have to worry about the weather out here.

I was delighted to hear that you managed to spend time with your family over Christmas – I have a two boys aged 5 & 2 so completely understand your comments about the prezzies. I am very much looking forward to getting back later in this month to see them  all.

Thank you once again for the presents they are great.

Kindest Regards

M

Hi Nickie,

Just a quick e-mail to thank you for the welfare box that arrived here today.  We are in Oman and it’s nearly 30C at the moment, we are surrounded by desert.

Toiletries were especially welcome and I’ll save the jumper for the cooler evenings.

Thank you for your kind thoughts.
