The pupils of P6/7 at Newton Primary in Ayr,  assisted with this year’s appeal by hand-decorating boxes and then packing up all the donations from themselves and the residents of  Panrock and Bradan Road Sheltered Housing Units in Troon.

The children have been undertaking a ‘Remembrance Project’ and were delighted to ‘do their bit’ for our lads and lassies.  I’m sure the recipients will be well-impressed with their boxes never mind the contents!  The clock beat us on the final wrapping in the now famous SOS green bags, but eager to know what the next stage would be, all gazed on and listened intently as the process of bagging and labelling  was explained.  Many questions were asked and answered and the consensus was that they want to be involved regularly with the troop parcels and card/letter-writing.  It’s hoped that they receive a few responses from this year’s recipients to fuel their enthusiasm.

All the children were rewarded with a bar of Fair Trade SoS Chocolate, commissioned for this year’s boxes…..  one wee lad brought a lump to my throat when he said “… I am going to keep this chocolate bar until I know my soldier is back home safe with his family..”… and I’ve no doubt he will too!

Thanks to all involved.
